History is Calling: Historians, the Constitution and the Voice

Image: National Archives of Australia. NAA: A6135, K17/12/84/24. (Australian Elections 1984)

Join us as we bring together leading historians and thinkers from across the University to shed light on the paths that have led to the upcoming referendum on a constitutionally-enshrined Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

From the insights of deep history to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, the symposium will examine the wider historical and political contexts in which the movement for constitutional recognition has unfolded.

We welcome this opportunity to contribute to fostering more nuanced understanding and informed engagement as the nation prepares to head to the polls.

Opening speaker: Professor Peter Yu AM - ANU Vice President (First Nations).

Other speakers include Beth Marsden, Ann McGrath, Mark McKenna, Peter Read and Frank Bongiorno.

This event is organised by History Co-Lab.
